I was born in Cairo (Egypt), in August 1972, after spend
pretty much all my life in Egypt. In 2000 I moved to Buffalo, NY, USA to
get my Ph.D. from state University of New York at Buffalo. I joined the
Laboratory of Alfred Ponticelli to study
the role of the general
transcription factor IIF in transcription initiation by eukaryotic RNA
polymerase II. In August 2004 I moved back to Egypt to join the
Biochemistry Department at Ain Shams University. In 2005 I moved to
Boston, MA, USA to work as a post-Doctoral fellow in Claire Moore's lab
at Tufts University, to study an aspect of eukaryotic gene expression called
polyadenylation. This essential step in the synthesis of mRNA produces a
modification on the end of the RNA that helps the mRNA function more
efficiently in protein synthesis, and prevents it from being destroyed
before it has performed this job. In 2009 I moved back to Egypt to teach
Biochemistry and Molecular Biology courses at the Department of
Biochemistry, Faculty of Science, Ain shams University, Cairo, Egypt. |
